KAILUA-KONA — A tsunami warning generated from a 7.7-magnitude earthquake off the west coast of Canada has postponed Saturday’s Big Island Interscholastic Federation Division I championship game between Kealakehe and Hilo.

Kealakehe High serves as an evacuation site during tsunami warnings.

Hilo’s Drew Kell scored on a 1-yard touchdown run with 58.8 seconds left in the first half, pulling the Vikings within 20-14. The teams will resume the contest at that point either next Friday or Saturday at Kealakehe, Waveriders athletic director Mike Hernandez said.

Kealakehe turned two interceptions by Kell into touchdowns.

After Vincent Paogofie’s pick, Kealakehe went on a four-play drive that senior quarterback Jordan Cristobal capped with a 13-yard touchdown run.

Then Kyler O’Halloran intercepted a pass, giving the Waveriders possession at the Vikings’ 47-yard line. Paogofie’s 36-yard reception on a deep post pattern set up a 5-yard touchdown run by Lennox Jones that gave Kealakehe at 14-0 lead with 34.6 second left.

Cristobal also threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Raymond Yadao, and Kell brought Hilo within 20-7 on a 9-yard touchdown run.
